Is this how people usually play in Texas Hold'em Tournaments?

After playing some home games with friends and sharpening my skills online, I decided to check out a poker Tournament. When I played with friends "at home", there was alot of betting that took place, and maybe a few people went in the whole night. The winner was decided over winning relatively small pots the whole night. From playing online I could easily see the flop with just the minimum bet and making a good hand half the time to bet at the river if things worked out. Then at the Tourney, I noticed there was hardly any betting, but it was either "all-in" on nothing. I think I saw people betting on the turn card or the river 10% of the time. The top 3 winners were decided by going all in with pocket cards of A9, 66, Q5, K5. So, I am thinking of entering the Tournament tomorrow because it's only a $25 buy-in. Is this how Tourneys are usually played in Casinos? should I try to bet like I'm used to or just wait for really good cards and go all in?
